Choosing a New Furnace for a South Barrington Home
South Barrington is mostly large custom homes on big lots, many built from the 1980s through the 2000s, and they rarely have a single furnace. Two or three furnaces, zoning dampers, long duct runs and furnaces in attics or far corners of the basement are common. When one of those furnaces fails, we look at the whole system before recommending anything, because replacing the furnaces in stages or together changes the price, the controls and the efficiency you end up with. Many of these homes have communicating or variable-speed equipment, so the new furnace has to match the thermostats and zone panels or be replaced as a matched set. Attic furnaces need a safe service platform, lighting and a secondary drain pan, and we bring those up to standard during the install.
Furnace Installation in South Barrington: How It Works
It starts with a free visit to your South Barrington home. We measure the house and ductwork, check the venting and gas supply and run a load calculation, then give you written Good, Better and Best Lennox options with rebates and financing laid out. On install day, our own crew removes the old furnace, sets the new one, connects venting, gas, condensate and controls, and tests combustion, temperature rise and airflow before we leave. We register the warranty and walk you through the new thermostat settings.
Repair or Replace Your South Barrington Furnace?
A gas furnace usually lasts 15 to 20 years in the Chicago area. A quick check is the $5,000 rule: multiply the furnace’s age by the repair price. If the result is over $5,000, replacement usually makes more sense. If your South Barrington furnace is younger or the repair is small, a repair may be the better value, and our South Barrington furnace repair team can diagnose it for $75.

Do I need a permit to replace a furnace in South Barrington?
South Barrington requires a furnace replacement permit filed with the manufacturer’s specifications and installation instructions and the contract with the estimated cost. Fees are a $100 application fee and a $150 permit fee, plus a $500 refundable contractor performance bond, all paid by cash or check. The installer must be present for the final inspection. We prepare the packet and meet the inspector.
Should I choose an 80% or a high-efficiency 96% furnace in South Barrington?
Nearly all South Barrington homes already have high-efficiency venting, so 96% to 99% furnaces are the norm. Variable-capacity models like the Lennox SLP99V suit large zoned homes best.
How long does a furnace replacement take?
Most furnace replacements in South Barrington take one day. Jobs that add return air, new venting or zoning can take a second day. If you are without heat, tell us when you call so we can schedule the install as soon as the equipment is available.
Is there a furnace replacement company near me in South Barrington?
Yes. Pure Comfort is based in Streamwood, about 15 minutes from South Barrington, and installs furnaces across 60010. We are a Lennox Premier Dealer with NATE-certified technicians, and our own crews do every install.
Is it worth replacing a 20- or 30-year-old furnace?
Usually, yes. Most furnaces last about 15 to 20 years in Chicago-area winters. A 20- to 30-year-old furnace is often far less efficient than a new high-efficiency model, parts get harder to find, and heat exchanger problems become more likely. If yours is safe and the repair is small, fixing it can still make sense. In South Barrington, we check the furnace and give you both prices so you can decide.
