WORTH CONSIDERING
What Are the Most Common Heat Pump Problems?
The most common heat pump problems are weak heating or cooling, ice that will not clear in winter, short cycling, refrigerant leaks and noisy outdoor fans. Call for service when you notice any of these.
Wrong air temperature
Air that is noticeably cold in heating mode, or warm in cooling mode, points to controls, refrigeration or backup heat problems.
The system runs constantly
Continuous operation without reaching the setpoint suggests the equipment is struggling with capacity, airflow or a refrigeration issue.
Trouble switching modesA heat pump that will not change between heating and cooling may have a thermostat, reversing valve, control or wiring problem.
Ice that will not clear
Light frost can be normal, but heavy ice remaining after a defrost cycle needs diagnosis before the system is damaged.
Repeated breaker trips
A breaker that keeps tripping signals an electrical or equipment problem and should not be reset over and over.
Water or new noisesWater near the indoor unit, mechanical noise or an outdoor unit that will not run all deserve prompt attention.
Safety first! Turn the system off if you see smoke or smell a strong electrical odor, then call for service rather than continuing to run the equipment.
Our Process
How Do We Diagnose Heat Pump Failures?
A heat pump combines refrigeration, airflow, electrical components and controls, so we test the system as a whole.
Test in the failing mode. We run the system in the mode that is causing trouble so the symptom can be observed rather than guessed at.
Check controls and refrigeration. The thermostat, reversing valve, defrost operation, sensors, motors, electrical components and refrigerant conditions are all evaluated.
Review the indoor side. Filter condition, airflow, drainage, auxiliary heat and the indoor equipment paired with the outdoor unit are part of the diagnosis.
Separate cause from symptom. Measurements help us distinguish an equipment failure from a control, airflow or application problem before any part is replaced.
Repair a heat pump when the failure is isolated and the system is in good shape; consider replacement when an older unit needs a compressor or major refrigerant repair. If replacement deserves consideration, you can review the options without pressure.
REPAIR OFTEN MAKES SENSE
A limited failure on a compatible system
When the fault is isolated and the system has otherwise provided reliable comfort in both seasons, a repair is usually the practical answer.
REPLACEMENT BECOMES MORE RELEVANT
Major repairs that keep repeating
An aging refrigerant system or equipment that no longer meets the home’s heating and cooling needs changes the long-term value of another repair.
THE FOUR THINGS WE WEIGH
Every recommendation comes down to these, considered together rather than one at a time.
01 / COST
What the repair costs today
The price of the fix measured against what that same money contributes toward replacement equipment.
02 / CONDITION
The state of the equipment
Repair history, refrigerant system condition and how the unit performs through both seasons.
03 / WARRANTY
Coverage that is still active
Remaining parts or labor coverage can make repair the clear answer, so we confirm it first.
04 / PERFORMANCE
Cold-weather capability
Whether the system still delivers acceptable heat in winter and reasonable efficiency through the year.
Pure Comfort has served Streamwood since 2008. Because the same equipment works in summer and winter, we consider how the indoor unit, controls, ducts and backup heat interact.
In-house technicians
No subcontracted crews. The technician who arrives works for Pure Comfort and answers to us.
Certified experience
NATE-certified, EPA-certified and Lennox Premier Dealer experience across the electrical, refrigeration and airflow sides of heat-pump service.
Major brands serviced
We service major heat pump brands, including systems installed by another company.
A broader view
That system-level approach helps prevent a temporary fix from leaving the original comfort problem unresolved.
WHAT WE INSTALL
Heat Pump Components and Controls
We service motors, capacitors, contactors, sensors, defrost controls, reversing valves, thermostats, drainage and refrigerant-related components across major brands.
Duct and airflow conditions are included in the diagnosis whenever they are limiting performance.
COMPONENTS WE SERVICE
Diagnosis determines which of these is actually at fault.
Heat pump repair starts with a $75 diagnostic ($99 evenings, weekends and holidays), and you approve a flat-rate price before any work starts. Once testing is complete, we explain the recommended repair and the condition of the overall system. If replacement offers better long-term value, Pure Comfort provides free in-home estimates.
Financing and incentive programs may be available for qualifying heat-pump installations. Current terms and eligibility are confirmed during the estimate.
Longer terms with interest for lower monthly payments, subject to credit approval. If replacement makes more sense, select Lennox systems qualify for 0% APR during Lennox promotions.
Free
Replacement Estimates
If replacement makes more sense, the in-home estimate is free, in writing and with no obligation.

What Your Neighbors Are Saying
Real Reviews. Real Comfort.
When you need HVAC due to an unexpected event you want someone who not only can provide the service you need….
Why is my heat pump blowing cool air in heating mode?
Heat-pump air can feel cooler than furnace air, but noticeably cold air may involve controls, refrigerant operation, airflow or backup heat.
Is frost on the outdoor unit normal?
Light frost can be normal. Heavy ice that remains after defrost may signal a sensor, control, airflow or refrigeration problem.
Why does auxiliary heat keep running?
Very cold weather, thermostat settings, low heat-pump output or a system problem can bring on auxiliary heat.
Why will the heat pump not switch between heating and cooling?
The thermostat, reversing valve, controls or wiring may be involved.
Do you repair systems installed by other companies?
Yes. Pure Comfort services major heat-pump brands.
When should I replace rather than repair?
We compare the failure with system age, condition, history, refrigerant, warranty and overall performance.
