Power-Vent Water Heater Installation in the Northwest & West Suburbs
Choose power-vent water heater installation in Streamwood, IL when household demand, vent routing, available space and electrical access support this type of tank system for your home.
A power-vent water heater makes sense when there is no usable chimney, the chimney is too large after a high-efficiency furnace was installed or the water heater needs to vent through a side wall. Power-vent units use a fan to move exhaust, which changes what is possible with venting. These are the conditions that point that direction.
The vent route is restrictive
A fan allows longer horizontal runs and different termination points than some conventional atmospheric tanks can support.
No usable chimney
When an existing chimney is unlined, shared or no longer appropriate, power venting can provide a compliant alternative.
The mechanical room has movedRemodels and finished basements sometimes leave the water heater in a location the original vent arrangement does not suit.
Electrical power is available
The blower and controls require an appropriate electrical supply, so a nearby circuit makes the option practical.
Combustion air is limited
Tight or enclosed spaces may need a specific venting and combustion-air approach that power venting can address.
Drainage is availableThe installation still needs proper drainage and a compliant termination location, which we confirm before recommending equipment.
Safety first! The unit still needs proper combustion air, electrical power, drainage and a compliant termination location. Pure Comfort evaluates those requirements before recommending equipment.
Our Process
How We Plan a Power-Vent Installation
Power-vent projects require careful attention to details that are easy to treat as an afterthought.
Size for demand. We review household demand, tank capacity and recovery needs before selecting equipment.
Plan the vent route. Gas supply, electrical access, vent material and route, termination clearances, drainage and service space are all mapped out.
Complete the installation. Our in-house team removes the old equipment and completes the water, gas, electrical, vent and safety connections required by the model.
Start up and verify. Startup confirms burner operation, blower performance, venting, temperature control and leak-free connections before walkthrough.
Choose a standard tank when the existing chimney venting is safe and adequate, and a power-vent tank when it is not. When replacement is required, the best choice depends on more than matching the old configuration.
A STANDARD TANK MAY STILL WORK
The existing venting supports it
If the current vent arrangement remains appropriate, a conventional atmospheric tank is often the simpler and less expensive project.
POWER VENT SOLVES ROUTING
Venting is the limiting factor
When the vent route, chimney condition or equipment location is the constraint, power venting opens up options a standard tank cannot.
THE FOUR THINGS WE WEIGH
Every recommendation comes down to these, considered together rather than one at a time.
01 / DEMAND
Household hot-water needs
Peak use, fixture count and recovery rate determine the capacity before anything else is decided.
02 / VENTING
What the route allows
Vent material, length, termination clearance and combustion air often decide the equipment type.
03 / UTILITIES
Gas and electrical access
Available gas input and a suitable electrical supply for the blower and controls.
04 / SPACE
Room to install and service
Clearances, drainage and future service access in the mechanical room.
Pure Comfort has installed water heaters around Streamwood since 2008, supported by Gene’s early hands-on experience with water-heating equipment.
Venting planned first
Vent length, material, termination location and manufacturer instructions are worked out before installation day.
In-house installers
Our own crews complete the water, gas, electrical and vent connections on the project.
Tested at startup
We test the completed system rather than treating the blower as a simple add-on to a standard tank swap.
Honest recommendations
If a standard tank or tankless system suits the home better, we say so rather than defaulting to one product.
WHAT WE INSTALL
Capacity, Venting and Control Options
Power-vent water heaters are available in different storage capacities and recovery rates. The best fit depends on peak demand, fuel input, vent limitations and the space available for service.
Equipment choice and location also affect operating sound, which is worth discussing during planning rather than after installation.
WHAT WE COMPARE FOR YOU
The equipment decision depends on the mechanical room as much as the household.
We install Bradford White tank water heaters, made in the USA, and Navien condensing tankless water heaters. Here's how the options compare, from a simple tank swap to endless hot water.
Good
Bradford White Atmospheric Tank
The standard natural-draft gas tank. The simplest, most affordable swap when your home already has a chimney or metal vent.
GallonsTank size. Roughly 40 gal for 1 to 2 people, 50 gal for 3 to 4, and 75 gal or tankless for larger families.
Atmospheric (natural draft)Exhaust rises up a chimney on its own. No fan or outlet needed.
Power ventA fan pushes exhaust out through PVC pipe. Needs an outlet nearby.
UEFUniform Energy Factor, the water heater efficiency rating. Higher is better.
GPMGallons per minute of hot water a tankless unit can deliver at once.
Tankless specs from navieninc.com as of October 2026. We size every water heater to your household and handle haul-away of the old unit.

Local Experience With Finished Installations
Pure Comfort’s project library includes power-vent water heaters installed in local homes. Those installations show how vent routing, termination, drainage and electrical access shape the finished project.
That first-hand experience is particularly useful in older mechanical rooms where a previous vent route may not suit the selected replacement equipment.
What Your Neighbors Are Saying
Real Reviews. Real Comfort.
When you need HVAC due to an unexpected event you want someone who not only can provide the service you need….
It is a storage water heater that uses a fan to move combustion exhaust through an approved vent system.
Does it need electricity?
Yes. The blower and controls require an appropriate electrical supply.
Is power vent the same as tankless?
No. Power-vent equipment stores heated water in a tank, while tankless equipment heats water as it flows.
Can it use the existing vent?
Sometimes, but vent material, size, route and termination must match the new equipment requirements.
Is the blower noisy?
It produces operating sound. Equipment choice and location should be discussed during planning.
How is capacity selected?
Household demand, recovery rate, fuel input and peak use all matter.
How much does a power-vent water heater cost?
A power-vent water heater typically costs $3,200 to $3,800 installed for 40 gallons, $3,500 to $4,000 for 50 gallons and $4,200 to $5,200 for 75 gallons. Replacing an existing power vent is at the lower end. Running new vent pipe, gas piping changes, a new drain pan or ¾-inch main shut-off valve, a slim, tall or short tank, and copper or galvanized water lines can raise it. Water heater projects over $2,000 can be financed with longer terms for a lower monthly payment, subject to credit approval.
What is included with a power-vent water heater installation?
Every power-vent installation includes the new Bradford White power-vent water heater, removal and disposal of the old one, new dielectric unions, a new temperature and pressure relief valve with discharge piping to code, and reconnection of the gas, vent and hot and cold water lines. We add a new gas shut-off valve, vent piping or drain pan when the location needs one, then fill and purge the system, verify the blower and venting, leak-test every water and gas connection and complete a full startup and safety check.
What warranty comes with a power-vent water heater?
Our Bradford White power-vent water heaters come with a 6-year manufacturer warranty on parts, and Pure Comfort adds a 1-year labor warranty on the installation.
How often should a water heater be maintained?
Once a year. A tank water heater should be flushed yearly to clear sediment, with the anode rod checked every few years. A tankless water heater should be descaled about once a year, more often with hard water. We can do either during a service visit.
