Furnace Repair, Replacement and Maintenance for Northwest Suburbs Homes

Chicagoland winters regularly drop below zero, and a furnace in Streamwood, Elgin or Schaumburg can run for weeks with only short breaks. Pure Comfort Heating and Cooling has kept local homes warm since 2008. Every furnace visit starts the same way: we test the whole heating system, not just the part that failed, and explain what we find before quoting anything.

Furnace repair

Most furnace repairs cost between $100 and $700, and about $300 is typical. Our diagnostic is $75, or $99 on evenings, weekends and holidays. Our trucks carry common igniters, flame sensors, inducer motors, pressure switches and control boards, so many repairs are finished on the first visit. For no-heat emergencies, same-day service is available.

Furnace replacement

When a furnace is unsafe, worn out or costing more in repairs than it is worth, we size the new one with a load calculation instead of copying the old unit. A new furnace typically runs $3,000 to $9,500 installed, depending on efficiency, single-stage, two-stage or variable-capacity heat, and any venting or ductwork changes. A furnace-only installation usually takes four to six hours. As a Lennox Premier Dealer, we install the full Lennox furnace lineup with a 10-year parts warranty, backed by our own labor warranty of one to ten years.

Furnace maintenance

A yearly tune-up follows our 49-point checklist, covering safety, combustion, electrical, airflow and controls. It catches small problems before they become no-heat calls. A tune-up is $99 in our main service area, and Comfort Club maintenance plans start at $15 a month.

Electric air handlers and electric heat

Not every home here heats with gas. We also repair and replace electric air handlers, including the electric heat strips that back up many heat pumps, and electric heaters. Common fixes include burned-out heat-strip elements, failed sequencers or relays, tripped limit switches, blower motors and breakers that keep tripping. The same $75 diagnostic and upfront, flat-rate pricing apply.

Repair or replace?

We usually start the replacement conversation when a furnace is 15 to 20 years old, needs a major repair such as a heat exchanger or control board, or has needed several repairs in a few years. We give you both options in writing, with upfront flat-rate pricing and no high-pressure sales. Financing is available, including 0% APR on select Lennox systems during Lennox promotions or longer terms with interest for a lower monthly payment, on approved credit.

What Is Included With a New Furnace Installation?

  • Load calculation so the furnace is sized for your home, not copied from the old unit.
  • Village permit pulled and inspected where required.
  • Venting, gas and condensate checked and updated to current code, including PVC venting for high-efficiency models.
  • Clean, protected work area with shoe covers and drop cloths, and the old furnace hauled away.
  • Start-up and testing: gas pressure, temperature rise, airflow and safety controls recorded.
  • Walkthrough of the new furnace and thermostat, plus warranty registration.
  • Warranty: Lennox 10-year parts warranty when registered, backed by our own labor warranty of one to ten years.

Most furnace-only installations take four to six hours. Read more on our furnace installation page.

Which Lennox Furnace Is Right for Your Home?

We install the full Lennox furnace lineup in three tiers. Good: dependable single-stage furnaces for budget-focused replacements. Better: two-stage furnaces that run longer at low fire for quieter, more even heat. Best: variable-capacity furnaces up to 99% AFUE that adjust in small steps for the most consistent comfort and lowest gas use. The right choice depends on your home, how long you plan to stay and your comfort goals. Compare models on our Lennox furnaces page, or look up efficiency ratings at ENERGY STAR.

Furnace Questions

Common Furnace Questions From Local Homeowners

A well-maintained gas furnace usually lasts 15 to 20 years in the Chicago area. Long, cold winters mean more run time than in milder climates, so yearly maintenance matters. Once a furnace passes 15 years and needs a major repair, we usually price replacement as an option.

The right size comes from a load calculation that looks at your home’s square footage, insulation, windows, air leakage and ductwork. Copying the old furnace size often leads to an oversized unit that short cycles and heats unevenly. We do the calculation as part of every free replacement estimate.

For most Northwest Suburbs homes, yes. A 96% to 99% AFUE furnace turns almost all of its gas into heat, compared with 80% for an older standard model, and it qualifies more often for utility rebates. The savings are largest in bigger homes and for families who plan to stay several years.

Most villages in our area require a mechanical permit for furnace replacement. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection where required and make sure venting and gas connections meet current code.

Check a standard 1-inch filter every month and replace it every one to three months. A 4- or 5-inch media filter usually lasts 6 to 12 months. A clogged filter is one of the most common reasons a furnace overheats or shuts off.

First make sure the thermostat is set to Heat and the fan is on Auto, not On, and check the filter. If it still blows cold, the cause is often a dirty flame sensor, an ignition problem or a safety switch. Call us and a technician can usually diagnose it on the first visit.

Once a year, ideally in early fall before the heating season. A yearly tune-up keeps a new furnace running efficiently and catches small problems early. Both of our Comfort Club plans include an annual furnace tune-up and an annual AC tune-up, starting at $15 a month.

Not sure which one you need? Describe what the system is doing and we will tell you whether it is a repair, a tune-up or a replacement conversation.

80% vs 96% vs 99% AFUE Furnaces Compared

An 80% furnace is the lowest upfront cost, a 93% to 97% condensing furnace is the best fit for most Chicago-area homes, and a 99% variable-capacity furnace gives the quietest, most even heat. We install the full Lennox line and repair all major brands.
