Meet Gene, Owner of Pure Comfort

I started this company at 20 years old because I wanted homeowners to get honest answers instead of a sales pitch. Sixteen years later, that’s still the whole job.

Under Gene, Pure Comfort became a Lennox Premier Dealer in 2022.

HOW IT STARTED

From Working With My Dad to Running My Own Trucks

I got my start in this trade young, working alongside my dad on boilers and water heaters. I liked the work, so after high school I enrolled at the Environmental Technical Institute, where I spent 2007 to 2008 learning forced-air heating and cooling, electrical, and the broader technical foundation of HVAC.

After graduating, I worked for a few local HVAC companies to build up my field experience, and I started Pure Comfort on the side. I was 20. I bought a van, and while I was still working for other people, I began running service calls of my own. A friend and former coworker who’d been in the trade longer than me helped guide me through the tough calls and taught me how to size equipment correctly.

HOW IT STARTED

I Wanted to Do This Differently

Two things pushed me to build my own company instead of staying an employee somewhere else. First, I kept getting laid off at the companies I worked for. Second, I kept running into sales cultures that expected technicians to be pushy, pushing to sell homeowners more than they needed or scare them into a decision.

I didn’t want to work that way, and I didn’t want my customers treated that way either. So Pure Comfort was built around a simple idea: inspect the home, explain what’s actually going on, lay out the real options, and let the homeowner decide what’s right for their house and their budget.

“No pressure. No upsells you don’t need. Just an honest answer and a job done right.”
GROWTH & FAMILY

Still a Family Business, Just a Bigger One

Pure Comfort started as a one-man operation and grew slowly while I kept working elsewhere to support it. Today we’re a team of around six, including office staff, installers, and service technicians, running four trucks, and I expect us to keep growing over the next decade without losing the quality control and personal service that got us here.

My wife runs our office as CSR, dispatcher, and office manager. She answers the phones, schedules the calls, files permits, processes warranty registrations, orders parts, and handles the paperwork that keeps everything running. I focus on sales, service, system design, quality control, and jumping in on installs when the field team needs an extra hand.

WHAT I'VE LEARNED ON THE JOB

The Equipment Is Only Part of the System

The biggest lesson I’ve learned running this company: a brand-new furnace or air conditioner can still perform poorly if the rest of the system isn’t right, including oversized equipment, undersized return air, restrictive filters, leaky ductwork, or an installation that was never actually commissioned.

That’s why every replacement we do can include:
