Hot-Water Boiler Service in the Northwest Suburbs

Many homes in Elgin, Palatine, Roselle and the surrounding towns are heated by hot-water boilers feeding radiators or baseboard. Boiler heat is quiet and even, but it depends on circulators, zone valves, expansion tanks and controls all working together. Pure Comfort Heating and Cooling repairs, replaces and maintains hot-water boiler systems. We do not work on steam systems.

Boiler repair

Cold radiators, banging pipes, a leaking relief valve or a boiler that keeps locking out usually point to a circulator, zone valve, expansion tank, ignition or control problem. We test the whole system before recommending a repair, so you pay for the actual cause and not a guess. Same-day emergency service is available, and after-hours diagnostics are $99.

Boiler replacement

We install hot-water boilers from Lennox, Weil-McLain, Peerless and Crown. Cast-iron boilers are durable and are often the simplest replacement for an older system. High-efficiency condensing boilers adjust their output to the weather and vent through PVC pipe. We size every boiler to your home’s heat loss and existing radiation, then rework the near-boiler piping, venting and controls as needed. See our boiler comparison for the options.

Boiler maintenance

An annual tune-up keeps a boiler safe and efficient. We check combustion, system pressure, the expansion tank, the relief valve, the low-water cutoff where equipped, the venting and the controls. Regular maintenance catches small leaks and failing parts before they cause a no-heat call in January.

Boilers and hot water

Some homes pair the boiler with an indirect water heater, or use a combi boiler that also makes household hot water. If you are replacing an older boiler and a tired water heater around the same time, ask us to price both options so you can compare them side by side.

When to replace a boiler

Replacement is worth considering when a boiler is 20 to 30 years old, has a cracked section or a leaking heat exchanger, or needs repeated repairs. We give you repair and replacement prices in writing and let you choose.

What Is Included With a New Boiler Installation?

  • Heat-loss calculation and radiation survey so the boiler matches your home and existing radiators or baseboard.
  • Near-boiler piping rebuilt with new circulators, an air separator, expansion tank and fill and relief valves as needed.
  • Venting sized and installed to code, including PVC venting and condensate drainage for condensing boilers.
  • Controls and zoning set up, including outdoor reset on high-efficiency models.
  • Village permit where required, plus removal of the old boiler.
  • Start-up: combustion test, system purge, pressure check and a walkthrough of the new controls.

Cast-Iron or Condensing: Which Boiler Is Right for You?

Cast-iron boilers are durable, tolerant of older piping and often the simplest replacement for an existing system. High-efficiency condensing boilers adjust their output to the weather, reach about 95% AFUE and vent through PVC pipe, which lowers gas bills in larger homes. Combi boilers also make household hot water, saving space. We help you compare them on price, efficiency and how well each fits your existing system. See our boiler options or look up ratings at ENERGY STAR.

Where Do We Provide Boiler Service?

We provide hot-water boiler repair, replacement and maintenance from our shop in Streamwood to homes within about 20 miles, including Streamwood, Bartlett, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, Elgin, Hanover Park, Roselle, Palatine, Carol Stream and Bloomingdale. See all service areas, or browse recent projects from local homes.

Many older homes in Elgin, Palatine and Roselle are heated by hot-water boilers, and we know these systems well.

Boiler Questions

Common Boiler Questions From Local Homeowners

No. We repair, maintain and replace hot-water boilers that heat with radiators, baseboard or radiant floors. We do not service steam heating systems.

A well-maintained cast-iron boiler often lasts 20 to 30 years, and condensing boilers typically last 15 to 20 years. Replacement is worth considering when a boiler has a cracked section or leaking heat exchanger, or needs repeated repairs.

The most common causes are trapped air, a stuck zone valve, a failed circulator or low system pressure. Bleeding the radiators can help with air. If rooms stay cold, we test the zone controls and circulation to find the cause.

Most homes run at about 12 to 15 psi when the system is cold and a little higher when hot. If pressure climbs near 30 psi, the relief valve may open, which usually points to an expansion tank or fill valve problem that should be checked.

In many homes, yes. Condensing boilers reach about 95% AFUE and adjust output to the weather, which lowers gas use. They work best with lower water temperatures, so we check your radiators and piping before recommending one.

Yes. You can add an indirect water heater that uses the boiler as its heat source, or choose a combi boiler that makes household hot water on demand. If your water heater is also old, we can price both options side by side.

Once a year, ideally in early fall before the heating season. An annual check covers the burner, safety controls, venting, system pressure and expansion tank, so small problems are caught before a cold night. Call (708) 515-4822 to schedule a boiler tune-up.

Not sure what your boiler needs? Describe what the system is doing and we will tell you whether it is a repair, a tune-up or a replacement conversation.

Standard vs High-Efficiency vs Combi Boilers Compared

A standard cast-iron boiler is the simplest like-for-like replacement, a high-efficiency condensing boiler uses less gas, and a combination boiler heats the home and supplies hot water from one unit.
