Furnace Not Working? Common Furnace Problems in South Barrington Homes
South Barrington is mostly large custom homes on big lots, many built from the 1980s through the 2000s. Homes this size often have two or three furnaces, zoning dampers, long duct runs and furnaces in attics or far corners of the basement. When one area goes cold, the cause can be a single furnace, a zone board, a damper or a thermostat, so we test the whole system before quoting anything.
Many of these homes have high-efficiency furnaces that are now 20 years old or more, with communicating or variable-speed controls. Inducer motors, control boards, pressure switches and condensate problems are the most common repairs we make here, and we carry the common parts for the major brands.
How a South Barrington Furnace Repair Visit Works
We trace the heating sequence from the thermostat call through ignition, then check the safeties, electrical parts, venting, drainage and airflow. We measure before replacing anything, so you are not paying for parts the furnace did not need.
You get the cause and a flat-rate price before any work begins. Our trucks are stocked for the common furnace parts, so most furnaces are fixed on the first visit. We repair all major brands, including furnaces installed by other companies, and for most brands we handle the manufacturer parts warranty claim so you pay labor only.
Repair or Replace Your South Barrington Furnace?
A well-maintained gas furnace lasts about 15 to 20 years in the Chicago area. A quick check is the $5,000 rule: multiply the furnace’s age by the repair price. Under $5,000, repairing usually makes sense. Over $5,000, it is worth getting a replacement price too.
A cracked heat exchanger is a safety issue at any age. If replacement makes more sense, the in-home estimate is free, Nicor Gas rebates apply to qualifying high-efficiency furnaces, and financing is available, including 0% APR on select Lennox systems during Lennox promotions.

South Barrington Furnace Repair FAQs
How much does furnace repair cost in South Barrington?
The diagnostic is $75, or $99 evenings, weekends and holidays. Most furnace repairs cost $100 to $700, and about $300 is typical. You approve a flat-rate price before any work starts.
How fast can you get to South Barrington?
Our Streamwood shop is about 8 miles from South Barrington, roughly 15 minutes in normal traffic. We answer 24/7 and offer same-day furnace repair when a truck is open.
One floor of my home is cold but the rest is fine. Is a furnace broken?
In homes with two or more furnaces or a zoned system, a single furnace, a stuck zone damper, a failed zone board or a thermostat can leave one area cold. We test each piece and tell you exactly which one failed.
Can you service homes with three furnaces in one visit?
Yes. We regularly work on homes with multiple systems. Each furnace is checked and priced on its own, so you can decide what to repair now and what can wait.
Should I repair a 20-year-old furnace?
Use the $5,000 rule: multiply the furnace’s age by the repair price. Under $5,000, repairing usually makes sense. Over $5,000, it is worth getting a replacement price too. A cracked heat exchanger usually means replacement.
Do you repair furnace brands other than Lennox?
Yes. Pure Comfort is a Lennox Premier Dealer, but we repair all major furnace brands in South Barrington, including furnaces installed by other companies.
What is the $5,000 rule for furnace repair?
Multiply the age of the furnace by the repair price. If the total is more than $5,000, replacing usually makes more sense than repairing. For example, a $350 repair on a 16-year-old furnace comes to $5,600. It is a rule of thumb, not a hard cutoff, so we give you both options in writing.
My furnace is not working and I have no heat. What should I check first?
Make sure the thermostat is set to heat, the furnace switch is on, the breaker has not tripped and the filter is not clogged. If it still will not run, call (708) 515-4822. We answer 24/7, and no-heat calls in South Barrington are often handled the same day.
