Choosing a New Air Conditioner for a Glen Ellyn Home
Many older Glen Ellyn homes were built before central air, so their AC was added later through an attic air handler, small ducts or ductless units. Replacing a system like that means checking whether the attic unit, its condensate pump and drain pan should be replaced too, and whether the small ducts can carry the airflow a new unit needs. In the 1970s and 1980s two-story homes, original ductwork and limited return air often leave the upstairs warm, so we size the new AC with a load calculation instead of going bigger. Many systems in the village are 15 to 25 years old, and some still run on R-22, which means a new matched indoor coil. For historic homes with radiators, a ductless system for the upper floor is worth pricing.
AC Installation in Glen Ellyn: How It Works
It starts with a free visit to your Glen Ellyn home. We measure the house and ductwork, check the electrical service and condenser location and run a load calculation, then give you written Good, Better and Best Lennox options with rebates and financing. On install day, our own crew recovers the old refrigerant, sets the new condenser and matching indoor coil, replaces or flushes the refrigerant lines as needed, pulls a deep vacuum and charges the system by measurement. We check airflow and temperature split before we leave and register the warranty.
Repair or Replace Your Glen Ellyn Air Conditioner?
Most central air conditioners last 12 to 17 years here. Replacement usually makes more sense when the compressor or coil fails on an older unit, the system still uses R-22 refrigerant, or repairs keep coming back. If your Glen Ellyn AC is younger and the problem is a capacitor, contactor or fan motor, a repair is often the better value, and our Glen Ellyn AC repair team can diagnose it for $75.

Where a permit is required, we confirm the Village of Glen Ellyn’s current requirements and pull the permit, or help you file it in towns where the homeowner applies, then schedule any required inspection.
Is a two-stage or variable-speed AC worth it in Glen Ellyn?
For Glen Ellyn’s two-story Colonials and split-levels, a two-stage AC with a variable-speed blower is often worth it. Longer low-speed cycles help even out a warm upstairs and pull more humidity from the house.
How long does AC replacement take?
Most air conditioner replacements in Glen Ellyn take one day, including the new condenser, matching indoor coil, refrigerant lines when needed and startup testing. Adding zoning or a ductless head upstairs can add a day.
Is there an AC installation company near me in Glen Ellyn?
Yes. Pure Comfort is based in Streamwood, about 30 minutes from Glen Ellyn, and installs air conditioners across 60137. We are a Lennox Premier Dealer with NATE-certified technicians, and our own crews do every install.
Should I replace my furnace and AC at the same time in Glen Ellyn?
If both are about 15 years old or older, replacing them together usually saves on labor and lets us match the new furnace blower to the new AC coil for better efficiency. A furnace and AC replaced together typically runs $8,000 to $19,000 installed. If one system is much newer, we can replace only the one that needs it.
