Common Furnace Problems in Addison Homes
Most Addison homes were built between the 1950s and 1970s, so many are on their second or third furnace and still have original ductwork with small returns. Short cycling and overheating in those homes are often airflow problems, especially where an addition or finished basement was added without changing the ducts. Older homes may still have a furnace sharing a chimney with the water heater, or a boiler with radiators, so we check draft and venting on every older system. Furnaces installed in the 2000s are now reaching the age where inducer motors, control boards and pressure switches fail.
How a Addison Furnace Repair Visit Works
Plenty of Addison basements have changed since the 1960s. A rec room got finished or an addition went on, and the ducts stayed the same. So airflow gets a hard look on every call. We begin at the thermostat call and follow the heating sequence through ignition. After that come the safeties, electrical parts, venting, drainage and airflow. If the furnace shares a chimney with the water heater, we check draft too. If an older unit still has a standing pilot, we test the pilot and thermocouple. Every suspect part is measured before anything is replaced. You hear the cause and a flat-rate price before work begins. Common furnace parts ride on our trucks, so most furnaces are fixed on the first visit. We repair all major brands, including furnaces other companies installed. For most brands we file the manufacturer parts warranty claim, so you pay labor only.
Repair or Replace Your Addison Furnace?
An Addison home built in the 1960s may have gone through two or three furnaces already. Units put in during the 2000s are now at the age where bigger parts start failing. In the Chicago area, a well-maintained gas furnace lasts about 15 to 20 years. When a repair quote comes in, try the $5,000 rule. Multiply the furnace’s age by the repair price. If the answer is under $5,000, repairing usually makes sense. Over $5,000, get a replacement price as well. One exception stands apart: a cracked heat exchanger is a safety issue at any age. Replacement estimates in your home are free. Nicor Gas rebates apply to qualifying high-efficiency furnaces, and financing is available, including 0% APR on select Lennox systems during Lennox promotions.

Addison Furnace Repair Cost and Timing
Addison furnace repairs usually cost $100 to $700, and about $300 is the average. Flame sensors, igniters and pressure switches sit at the low end. Inducer motors, control boards and blower motors cost more, and those are the parts now wearing out on furnaces installed in the 2000s. In homes with small original returns, an overheating furnace may need an airflow fix rather than a part. Either way, you see a written, flat-rate price before work starts.

Before we quote a new furnace for an Addison home, we check whether the original ducts and returns can carry it, and whether a shared chimney will still vent the water heater properly. Where a permit is required, we confirm the current Village of Addison requirements and pull the permit, or help you file it in towns where the homeowner applies, then schedule any required inspection.

Addison Furnace Repair FAQs
How much does furnace repair cost in Addison?
The diagnostic is $75, or $99 evenings, weekends and holidays. Most furnace repairs cost $100 to $700, and about $300 is typical. You approve a flat-rate price before any work starts.
How fast can you get to Addison?
Our Streamwood shop is about 17 miles from Addison, roughly 30 minutes in normal traffic. We answer 24/7 and offer same-day furnace repair when a truck is open.
Why does my furnace start, then shut off after a few minutes?
Short cycling is often a dirty flame sensor, a pressure switch fault from a blocked vent or condensate trap, or overheating from poor airflow. We test each one before quoting a repair.
My furnace and water heater share a chimney. Is that a problem?
It can be, especially after one appliance is replaced. If the furnace now vents through plastic pipe, the water heater may be left in a chimney that is too large for it to draft well. We check draft and venting on older systems.
Should I repair a 20-year-old furnace?
Use the $5,000 rule: multiply the furnace’s age by the repair price. Under $5,000, repairing usually makes sense. Over $5,000, it is worth getting a replacement price too. A cracked heat exchanger usually means replacement.
Do you repair furnace brands other than Lennox?
Yes. Pure Comfort is a Lennox Premier Dealer, but we repair all major furnace brands in Addison, including furnaces installed by other companies.
