Furnace Not Working? Common Furnace Problems in North Barrington Homes
North Barrington homes range from 1800s farmhouses to Wynstone estate homes built from the late 1980s on. Larger homes can have three or more systems and attic furnaces or air handlers, and the attic unit usually needs repairs first. Original furnaces from the late 1980s and 1990s are at the age when inducers, igniters and control boards fail. Some older homes heat with boilers and have no ductwork at all.
How a North Barrington Furnace Repair Visit Works
In a North Barrington home with several systems, we start by finding which furnace or zone is failing. Attic units get a close look, since they work harder and are harder to reach. From there, our method holds steady. We follow the heating sequence from the thermostat call through ignition. Then we check the safeties, electrical parts, venting, drainage and airflow. Parts are measured before anything is replaced. You hear the cause and a flat-rate price before work begins. Our trucks carry the common furnace parts, so most furnaces are fixed on the first visit. We repair all major brands, including furnaces from other installers. For most brands we handle the manufacturer parts warranty claim, so you pay labor only.
Repair or Replace Your North Barrington Furnace?
Many North Barrington homes have several furnaces of different ages, so each gets its own repair-or-replace look. A well-maintained gas furnace lasts about 15 to 20 years in the Chicago area. Apply the $5,000 rule: multiply the furnace’s age by the repair price. Under $5,000, repair usually makes sense. Over $5,000, get a replacement price too. A cracked heat exchanger is a safety issue at any age. Replacement estimates are free. Nicor Gas rebates apply to qualifying high-efficiency furnaces, and financing is available, including 0% APR on select Lennox systems during Lennox promotions.

North Barrington Furnace Repair Cost and Timing
In North Barrington, most furnace repairs cost $100 to $700, with about $300 the average. Igniters, flame sensors and pressure switches sit at the low end. North Barrington Furnace Repair FAQs
How much does furnace repair cost in North Barrington?
The diagnostic is $75, or $99 evenings, weekends and holidays. Most furnace repairs cost $100 to $700, and about $300 is typical. You approve a flat-rate price before any work starts.
How fast can you get to North Barrington?
Our Streamwood shop is about 30 minutes from North Barrington in normal traffic. We answer 24/7 and offer same-day furnace repair when a truck is open.
Our attic furnace keeps failing in our North Barrington home. Why?
Attic furnaces handle temperature swings and often serve the hardest rooms to heat. Frozen condensate lines, blocked vents and worn inducers are common. We test that unit and give you a flat-rate price, plus a replacement price if it is older.
Should I repair a 20-year-old furnace?
Use the $5,000 rule: multiply the furnace’s age by the repair price. Under $5,000, repairing usually makes sense. Over $5,000, it is worth getting a replacement price too. A cracked heat exchanger usually means replacement.
Why does my furnace start, then shut off after a few minutes?
Short cycling is often a dirty flame sensor, a pressure switch fault from a blocked vent or condensate trap, or overheating from poor airflow. We test each one before quoting a repair.
Do you repair furnace brands other than Lennox?
Yes. Pure Comfort is a Lennox Premier Dealer, but we repair all major furnace brands in North Barrington, including furnaces installed by other companies.
What is the $5,000 rule for furnace repair?
Multiply the age of the furnace by the repair price. If the total is more than $5,000, replacing usually makes more sense than repairing. For example, a $350 repair on a 16-year-old furnace comes to $5,600. It is a rule of thumb, not a hard cutoff, so we give you both options in writing.
