AC Not Cooling? Common AC Problems in Naperville Homes
Many Naperville homes are large two-stories with one air conditioner for the whole house, and the upstairs falls behind first on hot days. Original builder-grade systems in 1990s and 2000s homes are reaching the age when capacitors, fan motors and coils fail, and some still run on R-22. Undersized upstairs returns are a common reason one floor stays warm.
How a Naperville AC Repair Visit Works
We start at the thermostat and follow the cooling sequence, test capacitors, contactors, motors and connections under load, then measure refrigerant conditions, temperature split, drainage and airflow. We find the root cause before anything gets replaced.
You get a flat-rate price before work begins. Our trucks carry capacitors, contactors and fan motors, so many AC repairs are finished the same day. We repair all major brands, including systems installed by other contractors, and for most brands we handle the manufacturer parts warranty claim so you pay labor only.
Repair or Replace Your Naperville Air Conditioner?
A central air conditioner lasts about 12 to 17 years here with yearly maintenance. If yours is past 12 years and needs a compressor, coil or refrigerant leak repair, we give you both the repair price and a replacement price. R-22 systems are especially costly to recharge, since that refrigerant has been out of production since 2020.
The $5,000 rule is a quick check: multiply the age by the repair price, and if it is over $5,000, replacement is worth pricing. Replacement estimates are free, and if a heat pump is a fit for your home, your electric utility may offer rebates through our heat pump-trained technicians.

Naperville AC Repair FAQs
How much does AC repair cost in Naperville?
The diagnostic is $75, or $99 evenings, weekends and holidays. Most AC repairs cost $150 to $700. Capacitors and contactors are at the low end, while fan motors, refrigerant leaks and coil work cost more. You approve a flat-rate price before any work starts.
How fast can you get to Naperville?
Our Streamwood shop is about 40 minutes from Naperville in normal traffic. We answer 24/7 and offer same-day AC repair when a truck is open.
Why is my upstairs so much hotter than the main floor?
Heat rises, and upstairs rooms are often farther from the air handler with limited return air. Return-air changes, balancing or zoning usually help more than a bigger air conditioner.
Should we add a second AC system to our Naperville home?
In large two-stories, one system often cannot keep both floors comfortable. Before adding a second system, we test the existing AC and airflow, since return-air changes or zoning sometimes solve it for less.
Should I repair or replace a 15-year-old air conditioner?
If a 15-year-old system needs a compressor, coil or refrigerant leak repair, replacement is often the better value. We give you both prices so you can decide.
Can you still repair an R-22 air conditioner?
Yes, but R-22 is no longer produced, so recharging is expensive. If an R-22 system has a leak, we give you the repair price and a replacement price so you can compare.
