Heat Pump Installation in the Northwest & West Suburbs
Cold-climate heat pumps work well in Illinois, especially paired with a gas furnace as a dual-fuel system. Adding a heat pump to an existing furnace typically costs $6,000 to $11,000, and a heat pump with a new air handler runs $8,500 to $15,000 or more. Pure Comfort installs Lennox variable-capacity and Bosch ductless heat pumps sized with a load calculation.
A heat pump can provide efficient heating and cooling from one system, but the right application depends on the house. These are the factors that decide it.
Existing ductwork
A ducted heat pump can often use the home's air distribution system, provided the ducts can move the airflow the equipment requires.
Insulation and envelope
How well the home holds heat affects the capacity needed and how the system performs during the coldest stretches of winter.
Electrical serviceCircuit, breaker, wire and available service capacity all have to match the equipment requirements before installation.
Equipment location
Outdoor placement affects defrost operation, drainage, noise and service access, so it is planned rather than assumed.
Winter design conditions
Capacity at low outdoor temperatures determines whether the heat pump can work alone or needs a backup heat strategy.
Your heating goalsPrimary system, dual-fuel pairing with a furnace or a ductless solution for selected rooms are all different paths worth comparing.
Safety first! Pure Comfort compares those paths instead of treating one configuration as right for every home.
Our Process
How Do We Design and Install a Heat Pump?
Heat pumps operate differently from the oversized equipment found in many older homes, so the design work matters more than the model number.
Review the home. We evaluate heating and cooling needs, duct capacity, return air, electrical requirements and the existing equipment before selecting a system.
Plan the staging strategy. For dual-fuel projects, we plan how the heat pump and furnace will stage and switch as outdoor conditions change.
Complete the installation. Refrigerant, condensate, electrical and control work is completed in-house for the selected configuration.
Verify both modes. Before closeout we confirm airflow, temperature performance, electrical operation, drainage, controls and both heating and cooling operation.
Repair the Existing System or Install a Heat Pump?
Install a heat pump when your AC needs replacing and you want efficient electric heating with your furnace as backup; keep repairing the existing system when it is newer and working well. The goal is to show where a heat pump genuinely fits, not recommend one simply because it is newer technology.
REPAIR MAY BE THE BETTER CHOICE
Current equipment with an isolated problem
When the existing furnace or AC still serves the home well and the fault is limited, a repair keeps the system going without a larger project.
A HEAT PUMP BECOMES RELEVANT
Replacement is already approaching
When equipment is near the end of its life, electrification matters to you, or one system could improve year-round comfort, a heat pump is worth comparing.
THE FOUR THINGS WE WEIGH
Every recommendation comes down to these, considered together rather than one at a time.
01 / COST
Project cost against the alternative
What a heat pump project costs compared with a conventional replacement, including any electrical or duct work required.
02 / CONDITION
The current equipment
Age, repair history and how well the existing system still serves the home through both seasons.
03 / CAPACITY
Ductwork and electrical
Whether the ducts can move the required airflow and whether the electrical service supports the equipment.
04 / ENERGY
Fuel source and operating cost
How the home is heated today and what a change in energy source would mean over a full year.
Pure Comfort has served Streamwood since 2008 and understands that local heat-pump design must account for both humid summers and cold winter conditions.
Cold-climate design
We size and configure equipment for winter design conditions rather than assuming mild-climate performance.
In-house installation
Our own crews handle the refrigeration, electrical and control work required by these systems.
Certified experience
Lennox Premier Dealer, NATE-certified and EPA-certified experience behind sizing, refrigeration procedures and commissioning.
Airflow evaluated first
We check ductwork and airflow because heat pumps move more air than the oversized equipment they often replace.
WHAT WE INSTALL
Ducted, Dual-Fuel and Ductless Options
A ducted heat pump can use the home’s existing air-distribution system. Dual-fuel systems pair a heat pump with a gas furnace, while ductless systems serve spaces without conventional ducts.
Equipment also varies by capacity, operating stages, cold-weather performance, controls and sound level. Pure Comfort primarily installs Lennox products and explains how those differences affect the actual home.
CONFIGURATIONS WE INSTALL
The right setup depends on the home, not a single preferred product.
Ducted heat pumps using existing distribution
Dual-fuel heat pump and gas furnace pairings
Ductless systems for spaces without ducts
Single-stage, multi-stage and variable-capacity equipment
What Heat Pump Rebates, Financing and Warranties Are Available?
Yes. Heat pump projects can qualify for Lennox promotions, financing and ComEd heat pump discounts, but Illinois income-qualified HEAR rebates are not available yet as of October 2026. Heat-pump projects may qualify for changing manufacturer promotions, utility rebates or tax incentives. Eligibility depends on the equipment, efficiency level, installation and current program rules.
Financing may also be available for qualifying installations. Pure Comfort confirms applicable programs during the estimate rather than publishing temporary amounts as permanent offers.
As a Lennox Premier Dealer, we register your heat pump warranty and add Lennox ComfortShield extended labor coverage of up to 10 years.

In Your Neighborhood
Local Heat Pump Installation Experience
Pure Comfort’s completed-project library includes heat pumps installed in the communities around Streamwood. Those projects give homeowners a clearer picture of equipment placement, line-set routing, indoor components and the quality of the finished work.
Local experience also matters when evaluating older duct systems, limited return air and electrical conditions that may need attention before a heat pump can deliver the expected comfort.

Can a heat pump heat a home during an Illinois winter?
Yes. Most homes here use a dual-fuel system: a heat pump paired with a gas furnace. The heat pump heats efficiently through spring, fall and mild winter days, and the furnace takes over when it gets truly cold. For dual-fuel systems we typically install Lennox EL19KPV and EL21KLV heat pumps, or the EL18KSLV side-discharge model where space is tight.
What is a dual-fuel system?
It combines a heat pump with a gas furnace and uses controls to select the appropriate heat source as conditions change.
Do heat pumps also provide air conditioning?
Yes. A heat pump moves heat in both directions, providing cooling in summer and heating in winter.
Can a heat pump use existing ductwork?
Often, but the ducts and airflow must be checked for the selected equipment and operating conditions.
Does a heat pump require electrical work?
It may. Existing circuit, breaker, wire and service capacity need to match the equipment requirements.
Are rebates available?
Programs change. We confirm current manufacturer, utility and tax-related opportunities during the estimate.
Is a heat pump cheaper to run than my gas furnace?
Above about 35 to 40°F, usually yes. Below that, gas is often cheaper. On every dual-fuel install, we set the switch-over temperature from your home’s balance point in the load report, typically around 35 to 40°F. That way the system always runs on whichever fuel costs less to heat your home.
How much does a heat pump cost?
A heat pump with a matching evaporator coil (paired with a furnace) costs about $6,000 for a basic, lower-SEER2 model up to about $11,000 for a high-SEER2 system, installed. A heat pump with an air handler starts at about $8,500 and can go above $15,000 for large, high-SEER2 or fully communicating systems.
The price also depends on whether we need to run new low-voltage wiring or a new refrigerant line set. Attic installations take extra work and parts: a drain pan, float switch, secondary drain and drain trap.
How often should a heat pump be serviced?
At least once a year, and ideally twice, in spring and fall, because a heat pump runs for both heating and cooling. Regular service keeps it efficient and catches problems early. Ask about our Comfort Club plans, which include yearly heating and cooling tune-ups starting at $15 a month.
