Choosing a New Air Conditioner for a West Chicago Home
Homes from the 1980s and 1990s make up a large share of West Chicago, and many of their air conditioners have already been replaced once or are near the end of their life. In Cornerstone Lakes, many original units are about 25 years old and some still use R-22, so replacing one means a new matched indoor coil and a check of the existing line set. Those two-story homes have long duct runs to the bedrooms, and sizing the new AC with a load calculation matters more than adding tonnage. In older homes near downtown, central air was added after construction, and small ducts with limited return air leave upstairs rooms warm. There, a ductless system for the top floor or an addition can work better than a larger central unit.
AC Installation in West Chicago: How It Works
It starts with a free visit to your West Chicago home. We measure the house and ductwork, check the electrical service and condenser location and run a load calculation, then give you written Good, Better and Best Lennox options with rebates and financing. On install day, our own crew recovers the old refrigerant, sets the new condenser and matching indoor coil, replaces or flushes the refrigerant lines as needed, pulls a deep vacuum and charges the system by measurement. We check airflow and temperature split before we leave and register the warranty.
Repair or Replace Your West Chicago Air Conditioner?
Most central air conditioners last 12 to 17 years here. Replacement usually makes more sense when the compressor or coil fails on an older unit, the system still uses R-22 refrigerant, or repairs keep coming back. If your West Chicago AC is younger and the problem is a capacitor, contactor or fan motor, a repair is often the better value, and our West Chicago AC repair team can diagnose it for $75.

R-22 coil replacements, long duct runs in two-story homes, and small ducts in older homes drive most of the price. Where a permit is required, we confirm the City of West Chicago’s current requirements and pull the permit, or help you file it in towns where the homeowner applies, then schedule any required inspection.
Is a two-stage or variable-speed AC worth it in West Chicago?
For two-story homes in Cornerstone Lakes and other 1990s subdivisions, a two-stage AC with a variable-speed blower is usually worth it. Longer low-speed cycles help cool upstairs bedrooms at the end of long duct runs.
How long does AC replacement take?
Most air conditioner replacements in West Chicago take one day, including the new condenser, matching indoor coil, refrigerant lines when needed and startup testing. Adding zoning or a ductless head upstairs can add a day.
Is there an AC installation company near me in West Chicago?
Yes. Pure Comfort is based in Streamwood, about 25 minutes from West Chicago, and installs air conditioners across 60185. We are a Lennox Premier Dealer with NATE-certified technicians, and our own crews do every install.
Should I replace my furnace and AC at the same time in West Chicago?
If both are about 15 years old or older, replacing them together usually saves on labor and lets us match the new furnace blower to the new AC coil for better efficiency. A furnace and AC replaced together typically runs $8,000 to $19,000 installed. If one system is much newer, we can replace only the one that needs it.
