Common Furnace Problems in Streamwood Homes
Much of Streamwood was built in the 1960s and 1970s, so many homes are ranches, raised ranches and split-levels now on their second or third furnace. The furnace often sits in a tight utility closet or a lower-level laundry room, and undersized return air is common. A furnace that overheats and trips its limit switch, or short cycles on the coldest nights, is often starved for air rather than broken.
Streamwood’s townhome communities and the subdivisions built in the 1990s and 2000s mostly have high-efficiency furnaces that vent through plastic pipe. The repairs we see most there are dirty flame sensors, failed igniters, pressure switch faults from a clogged condensate trap, and inducer motors around the 12 to 15 year mark. Some homes heat with an electric air handler and heat pump instead, and we repair those too. The photos on this page are from a Lennox furnace replacement we recently finished in a Streamwood basement.
How a Streamwood Furnace Repair Visit Works
We have served Streamwood since 2008, and the patterns are familiar. In the 1960s and 1970s ranches and split-levels, the furnace often sits in a tight utility closet or a lower-level laundry room with undersized return air. A furnace that trips its limit switch there may be starved for air, not broken. In the newer townhomes and subdivisions, we check the plastic venting and the condensate trap. Every visit follows the heating sequence from the thermostat call through ignition. Then we check the safeties, electrical parts, venting, drainage and airflow. We measure before we replace parts. You get the cause and a flat-rate price before work begins. Our trucks are stocked with common furnace parts, so most furnaces are fixed on the first visit. We repair all major brands, including furnaces other companies installed. For most brands, we handle the manufacturer parts warranty claim and you pay labor only.
Repair or Replace Your Streamwood Furnace?
Many Streamwood ranches and split-levels are already on their second or third furnace, while the high-efficiency units in the 1990s and 2000s subdivisions are aging into their own repair years. A well-maintained gas furnace lasts about 15 to 20 years in the Chicago area. For a quick answer, use the $5,000 rule. Multiply the age by the repair price. Under $5,000, repairing usually makes sense. Over $5,000, ask for a replacement price too. A cracked heat exchanger is a safety issue at any age. Since we are right here in town, the free in-home estimate is easy to fit in. Nicor Gas rebates apply to qualifying high-efficiency furnaces. Financing is available, including 0% APR on select Lennox systems during Lennox promotions.

Streamwood Furnace Repair Cost and Timing
Most Streamwood furnace repairs cost $100 to $700, and about $300 is typical. Dirty flame sensors, failed igniters and pressure switch faults from a clogged condensate trap sit at the low end. Inducer motors, control boards and blower motors cost more. Because our shop is in town, same-day repair is common when a truck is open. You get a written, flat-rate price before work starts.

Streamwood, IL 60107 · Oct 24, 2026 · Technician: Gene
No-heat call on an older standard-efficiency furnace in a utility room. A previous company had blamed the thermocouple, but it tested at 21 mV, which is in range. With the burners running, our carbon monoxide meter climbed to 221 ppm within 10 minutes. A camera inspection of the heat exchanger found heavy rust and a hole. A failed heat exchanger can let combustion gases into the home, so we recommended replacement based on safety, age, efficiency and repair cost, and the homeowner scheduled a new furnace for later in the week.

Streamwood, IL 60107 · Oct 23, 2026 · Technician: Gene
No-heat call. The pilot was slow to light, the blower motor and wheel were out of balance, and the fan was stuck on with the control board relays clicking. We also found the high-limit wiring had been removed, which bypasses the safety that shuts the burners off if the furnace overheats. On a test fire our CO meter read up to 18 ppm, and the home's CO detector was old with no batteries. We left the furnace off for safety and recommended replacement, since a new motor, wheel and control board on a furnace this age cost more than they are worth.

Streamwood, IL 60107 · Oct 21, 2026 · Technician: Gene
No heat on a two-stage Lennox furnace. The inducer pressure port was completely clogged and a dirty flame sensor was giving a weak flame signal, so the furnace kept shutting down. We cleared the port, cleaned the flame sensor and the cabinet, and adjusted the blower speed to bring the temperature rise into range. The flue pipe showed some corrosion, so we added a fastener to secure the joint. We tested both heating stages and the furnace ran normally.

Streamwood, IL 60107 · Oct 20, 2026 · Technician: Vince
New lennox furnace installation in a Streamwood ranch home. EL280 downflow model with a media air cleaner cabinet. New thermostat installation.
Streamwood, IL 60107 · Oct 18, 2026 · Technician: Gene
Sunday no-heat call. The furnace itself was fine; the thermostat had failed and was no longer calling for heat. We installed a new thermostat, ran a full heating cycle to confirm normal operation, and recommended a fall tune-up before the cold weather sets in.

Repair visit
“We had a great experience with Pure Comfort Heating and Cooling. Gene Baldassano came out to our home in Streamwood to diagnose a cooling issue and quickly found that it was caused by both a slight fan settings problem, a wiring issue, and also the fact that our cooling system is ancient (more than 25 years old, lol). He explained everything clearly, was completely transparent about what needed to be done, and got it resolved much faster than we expected.”

Streamwood Furnace Repair FAQs
How much does furnace repair cost in Streamwood?
The diagnostic is $75, or $99 evenings, weekends and holidays. Most furnace repairs cost $100 to $700, and about $300 is typical. You approve a flat-rate price before any work starts.
How fast can you get to my Streamwood home?
Our shop is in Streamwood, so most homes in town are less than 10 minutes away. We answer 24/7, and same-day furnace repair is common when a truck is open.
Why does my furnace shut off on the coldest nights?
In many Streamwood ranches and split-levels, the furnace overheats because it cannot move enough air. A dirty filter, closed registers or an undersized return trips the high-limit switch and shuts the burners off. A dirty flame sensor or a failing inducer motor can cause similar shutdowns, so we test each one before quoting a repair.
My furnace is in a small closet. Can that cause problems?
It can. A closet furnace needs enough combustion air and return air, and enough room to service it safely. We check clearances, venting and airflow on every repair visit and tell you if the closet itself is part of the problem.
Do you repair electric air handlers and heat pump backup heat?
Yes. We repair electric air handlers and electric heaters, including burned-out heat-strip elements, sequencers, relays, limit switches and blower motors.
Do you repair furnace brands other than Lennox?
Yes. Pure Comfort is a Lennox Premier Dealer, but we repair all major furnace brands in Streamwood, including furnaces installed by other companies.
