AC Not Cooling? Common AC Problems in Lake Barrington Homes
Estate homes in Lake Barrington often cool with two or three systems and zoned ductwork, and the upstairs or attic system usually falls behind first. Condensers can sit far from the house, so long line sets and landscaping affect performance. At Lake Barrington Shores, condensers are placed where the association allows and air handlers sit in tight closets. Capacitors, contactors, fan motors and refrigerant leaks are the repairs we see most.
How a Lake Barrington AC Repair Visit Works
We start at the thermostat and follow the cooling sequence, test capacitors, contactors, motors and connections under load, then measure refrigerant conditions, temperature split, drainage and airflow. We find the root cause before anything gets replaced.
You get a flat-rate price before work begins. Our trucks carry capacitors, contactors and fan motors, so many AC repairs are finished the same day. We repair all major brands, including systems installed by other contractors, and for most brands we handle the manufacturer parts warranty claim so you pay labor only.
Repair or Replace Your Lake Barrington Air Conditioner?
A central air conditioner lasts about 12 to 17 years here with yearly maintenance. If yours is past 12 years and needs a compressor, coil or refrigerant leak repair, we give you both the repair price and a replacement price. R-22 systems are especially costly to recharge, since that refrigerant has been out of production since 2020.
The $5,000 rule is a quick check: multiply the age by the repair price, and if it is over $5,000, replacement is worth pricing. Replacement estimates are free, and if a heat pump is a fit for your home, ComEd offers instant discounts through our heat pump-trained technicians.

Lake Barrington AC Repair FAQs
How much does AC repair cost in Lake Barrington?
The diagnostic is $75, or $99 evenings, weekends and holidays. Most AC repairs cost $150 to $700. Capacitors and contactors are at the low end, while fan motors, refrigerant leaks and coil work cost more. You approve a flat-rate price before any work starts.
How fast can you get to Lake Barrington?
Our Streamwood shop is about 32 minutes from Lake Barrington in normal traffic. We answer 24/7 and offer same-day AC repair when a truck is open.
Why is my upstairs so much hotter than the main floor?
Heat rises, and upstairs rooms are often farther from the air handler with limited return air. Return-air changes, balancing or zoning usually help more than a bigger air conditioner.
Can you work on AC units at Lake Barrington Shores?
Yes. We repair air conditioners in Lake Barrington Shores townhomes and condos, including air handlers in tight closets. If a condenser needs to be replaced, we follow the association’s placement rules.
Should I repair or replace a 15-year-old air conditioner?
If a 15-year-old system needs a compressor, coil or refrigerant leak repair, replacement is often the better value. We give you both prices so you can decide.
Can you still repair an R-22 air conditioner?
Yes, but R-22 is no longer produced, so recharging is expensive. If an R-22 system has a leak, we give you the repair price and a replacement price so you can compare.
