Choosing a New Furnace for a Des Plaines Home
More than 40 percent of Des Plaines homes were built in the 1950s and 1960s, mostly brick ranches, raised ranches and Cape Cods. Many are on their third or fourth furnace, and each replacement was often sized to match the last. We start with a load calculation, since the original ductwork and limited return air cannot handle an oversized furnace. Cold back bedrooms in ranches usually trace to long duct runs and weak return air, so a variable-speed blower and duct sealing can matter as much as the furnace itself. Cape Cods and story-and-a-half homes often have small upstairs ducts or none, which shapes the plan. Many furnaces here share a chimney with the water heater, so venting is part of every quote.
Furnace Installation in Des Plaines: How It Works
It starts with a free visit to your Des Plaines home. We measure the house and ductwork, check the venting and gas supply and run a load calculation, then give you written Good, Better and Best Lennox options with rebates and financing laid out. On install day, our own crew removes the old furnace, sets the new one, connects venting, gas, condensate and controls, and tests combustion, temperature rise and airflow before we leave. We register the warranty and walk you through the new thermostat settings.
Repair or Replace Your Des Plaines Furnace?
A gas furnace usually lasts 15 to 20 years in the Chicago area. A quick check is the $5,000 rule: multiply the furnace’s age by the repair price. If the result is over $5,000, replacement usually makes more sense. If your Des Plaines furnace is younger or the repair is small, a repair may be the better value, and our Des Plaines furnace repair team can diagnose it for $75.

Des Plaines Furnace Replacement FAQs
How much does a new furnace cost in Des Plaines?
As of October 2026, a new furnace from Pure Comfort costs $3,000 to $9,500 installed in Des Plaines. Chimney liner or venting changes in 1950s and 1960s homes and return air for back bedrooms drive most furnace prices in Des Plaines. Replacing the furnace and air conditioner together costs $8,000 to $19,000, and Nicor Gas rebates of $150 to $225 apply to qualifying 95% and 97% AFUE furnaces.
How do I get a free furnace estimate or quote in Des Plaines?
Call (708) 515-4822 or book online. We visit your Des Plaines home, measure the house and ductwork, run a load calculation and give you written Good, Better and Best options with rebates and financing. The estimate is free, and there is no pressure to decide on the spot.
Do I need a permit to replace a furnace in Des Plaines?
Where a permit is required, we confirm the City of Des Plaines’ current requirements and pull the permit, or help you file it in towns where the homeowner applies, then schedule any required inspection.
Should I choose an 80% or a high-efficiency 96% furnace in Des Plaines?
Many Des Plaines furnaces share a chimney with the water heater. A 96% furnace vents through PVC, which can leave the water heater in a chimney too large for it, so we plan a liner or water heater change. Where that cost is high, an 80% furnace can be the better value.
How long does a furnace replacement take?
Most furnace replacements in Des Plaines take one day. Jobs that add return air, new venting or zoning can take a second day. If you are without heat, tell us when you call so we can schedule the install as soon as the equipment is available.
Is there a furnace replacement company near me in Des Plaines?
Yes. Pure Comfort is based in Streamwood, about 35 minutes from Des Plaines, and installs furnaces across 60016 and 60018. We are a Lennox Premier Dealer with NATE-certified technicians, and our own crews do every install.
Is it worth replacing a 20- or 30-year-old furnace?
Usually, yes. Most furnaces last about 15 to 20 years in Chicago-area winters. A 20- to 30-year-old furnace is often far less efficient than a new high-efficiency model, parts get harder to find, and heat exchanger problems become more likely. If yours is safe and the repair is small, fixing it can still make sense. In Des Plaines, we check the furnace and give you both prices so you can decide.
