Streamwood
Streamwood is a suburb of Chicago, located in Cook County. The town’s population is 38,777. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and it is 30 miles from the city center. With its proximity to the city, Streamwood is known for its excellent public facilities.
Streamwood was incorporated in 1957. By 1970, the town had a population of 18,176. During this time, a new fire station was built on Cypress Drive. This station also served as a Council Chambers.
Streamwood is located along Lake Michigan. It is a very scenic community that offers plenty of recreational activities. It is surrounded by nature preserves, lakes, and trails. Streamwood is also home to a number of top-notch medical centers. Its population is made up of a large Asian population. While the winters can be cold, summers are warm and sunny. In the 1950s, Streamwood was a rapidly growing community. New construction allowed the Village to expand. At that time, the area was known as Hanover Township. After the Korean War, a number of veterans bought homes in instant subdivisions. Many of these homes were rented with the option to buy.
The village began to develop industrial and commercial opportunities. The Phoenix Lake Business Park was a huge boost for the town. Later, the Westview Shopping Center opened. Other developments in the Village included the Streamwood Corporate Center, a business park that brought several companies to the area. The Village also formed its own water company, which is now the Streamwood Village Water Company.
The city of Streamwood is home to the Windy City Bulls NBA G League affiliate. It also has an award-winning wedding venue, the Hoosier Grove Barn. In addition, there are several parks that are open to the public. Among these are the Arthur L. Janura Preserve, the Poplar Creek Trail, and the Hoosier Grove Park.
Homeownership rates in Streamwood are 85.8%. Housing is generally two-story colonials with clapboard siding. However, there are some ranch-style houses available as well. These homes can be found on the west side of the city.
Despite the relatively high housing prices in Streamwood, the average cost of living is still much more affordable than the national average. In fact, the average price of a home in the city is only $244,300. Compared to the statewide median, Streamwood is about 10% more expensive.
