Streamwood

Streamwood is located in northeastern Illinois on the shores of Lake Michigan. It is 30 miles northwest of Chicago and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Streamwood is surrounded by nature preserves and lakes, and offers outdoor recreation. The weather in Streamwood can be cold during winter, but it is pleasant during the summer. Streamwood’s average temperatures vary from a high of 80° during the summer to a low of 12° during the winter.

Streamwood is the 44th largest city in Illinois. There are about 38,777 residents living in Streamwood at the time of the latest census. According to the United States Census Bureau, Streamwood is a suburb of Chicago. In addition, Streamwood is a part of the Tri Village area, which also includes Elin, Schaumburg, and Irving Park. Streamwood was incorporated in 1957. This was the result of the rapid growth of the community. By 1970, there were 18,176 occupants living in Streamwood. Initially, this was due to a surge in the housing industry. Builders developed pre-assembled houses that were delivered to residents. These homes had two-story colonials with clapboard siding. New housing development continued, and by 2000 there were 36,407 residents living in Streamwood.

A major draw to Streamwood is the Lords Park Zoo. This zoo features large fenced enclosures filled with native Illinois animals, such as elk, buffalo, pigs, and ponies. Additionally, the zoo has white-tailed deer, donkeys, and calves. Streamwood is home to the Windy City Bulls, an NBA G League affiliate.

In 1957, Streamwood was incorporated as a village. At that time, the new residents faced issues such as inadequate wells and unpaved streets. However, as the community continued to grow, the village took over the water and sewer systems. Since the 1950s, Streamwood has been a vibrant, balanced growing city.

A large number of German immigrants worked the land that is now known as Streamwood. Many of them purchased homes in instant subdivisions after the Korean War. One of these subdivisions, Oak Knolls Farms, included a Streamwood Oaks Golf Course. Some residents complained about the poor infrastructure. By the 1960s, the village had built a new fire station on Cypress Drive. It had also added a new council chamber and administrative center. Streamwood’s new municipal buildings reflected the growth of the community.

By the late 1970s, Streamwood had expanded to more than five square miles. It was located along Route 59 and Illinois Route 19. Commercial development began to take off in Streamwood. In 1989, a shopping center called Westview Shopping Center was opened.

Streamwood is a small city that has become an enclave of big city amenities. Along with the aforementioned parks and zoo, the village has also added a cricket team to its sports roster.
